saṃyuktanikāyaḥ 1.69 — icchāsūktam
Saṃyukta Nikāya 1.69 — Desire
केनस्विद् बध्यते लोकः, कस्य विनयाय मुच्यते।
कस्यस्विद् विप्रहाणेन, सर्वं छिनत्ति बन्धनमिति॥
kena svid badhyate lokaḥ, kasya vinayāya mucyate.
kasya svid viprahāṇena, sarvaṃ chinatti bandhanam iti.
By what is the world bound? By the removal of what is it freed?
Through the abandonment of what does one cut all bonds?
इच्छया बध्यते लोकः, इच्छाविनयाय मुच्यते।
इच्छाया विप्रहाणेन, सर्वं छिनत्ति बन्धनमिति॥
icchayā badhyate lokaḥ, icchāvinayāya mucyate.
icchāyā viprahāṇena, sarvaṃ chinatti bandhanam iti.
The world is bound by desire (icchā); by the removal of desire it is freed.
Through the abandonment of desire, one cuts all bonds.
