Saṃyukta Nikāya 1.44 — One Source
“एकमूलं द्विरावर्तं, त्रिमलं पञ्चप्रस्तरम्।
समुद्रं द्वादशावर्तं, पातालमतरदृषिः” इति॥
“ekamūlaṃ dvirāvartaṃ, trimalaṃ pañcaprastaram.
samudraṃ dvādaśāvartaṃ, pātālam atarad ṛṣiḥ” iti.
“The Rishi (sage) has crossed the pātāla (abyss), resembling an ocean and having one source, twofold currents, three stains, five outgrowths,
and twelve whirlpools.”
