“क्षत्रियो द्विपदां श्रेष्ठो, बलिवर्दश्चतुष्पदाम्।
कौमारी श्रेष्ठा भार्याणां, यश्च पुत्राणां पूर्वजः” इति।
“kṣatriyo dvipadāṃ śreṣṭho, balivardaś catuṣpadām.
kaumārī śreṣṭhā bhāryāṇāṃ, yaś ca putrāṇāṃ pūrvajaḥ” iti.
“The Kṣatriya is the best of bipeds, the ox is the best of quadrupeds;
a maiden is the best of wives, and the first-born is the best of sons.”

“सम्बुद्धो द्विपदां श्रेष्ठ, आजानेयश्चतुष्पदाम्।
शुश्रूषा श्रेष्ठा भार्याणां, यश्च पुत्राणामाश्रवः” इति।
“sambuddho dvipadāṃ śreṣṭha, ājāneyaś catuṣpadām.
śuśrūṣā śreṣṭhā bhāryāṇāṃ, yaś ca putrāṇām āśravaḥ” iti.
“The Sambuddha is the best of bipeds, a thoroughbred is the best of quadrupeds;
an attentive one is the best of wives, and the obedient one is the best of sons.”
