saṃyuktanikāyaḥ 1.30 — eṇajaṅghasūktam
Saṃyukta Nikāya 1.30 — The Antelope's legs
“एणजङ्घं कृशं वीरमल्पाहारमलोलुपम्।
सिंहमिवैकचरं नागं कामेश्वनपेक्षिणम्।
उपसङ्क्रम्य पृच्छामः कथं दुःखात् प्रमुच्यत इति॥”
“eṇajaṅghaṃ kṛśaṃ vīram alpāhāram alolupam.
siṃham iva ekacaram nāgaṃ kāmeṣu anapekṣiṇam.
upasaṅkramya pṛcchāmaḥ kathaṃ duḥkhāt pramucyate iti.”
[A deity:] “To the one with lower-legs like an antelope 1), lean, heroic, eating little, not greedy;
wandering alone like a lion, a great being unconcerned with sensual pleasures;
having approached, we ask: how is one freed from suffering?”
“पञ्च कामगुणा लोके मनःषष्ठाः प्रवेदिताः।
अत्र छन्दं विरज्यैवं दुःखात् प्रमुच्यत इति॥”
“pañca kāmaguṇā loke manaḥ-ṣaṣṭhāḥ praveditāḥ.
atra chandaṃ virajya evaṃ duḥkhāt pramucyate iti.”
[The Bhagavān:] “The five sensual pleasures in the world, with the (imagining) mind as the sixth, have been declared (elsewhere).
By becoming dispassionate towards the desire for these, thus one is freed from suffering.”
शक्तिवर्गस्तृतीयः।
