samyuktanikāyaḥ 1.73 — vittasūktam
Saṃyukta Nikāya 1.73 — Wealth


“किंस्विदिह वित्तं पुरुषस्य श्रेष्ठं, किंस्वित् सुचीर्णः सुखमावहति।
किंस्वित् ह वै स्वादुतमं रसानां, कथंजीविनं जीवितमाहुः श्रेष्ठम्?” इति।
“kiṃ svid iha vittaṃ puruṣasya śreṣṭhaṃ, kiṃ svit sucīrṇaḥ sukham āvahati.
kiṃsvit ha vai svādutamaṃ rasānāṃ, kathaṃjīvinaṃ jīvitam āhuḥ śreṣṭham?” iti.
“What here is the best wealth for a person? What, when well-practiced, brings happiness?
What indeed is the sweetest of tastes? Living how, it is said, is the best way to live?”

“श्रद्धेह वित्तं पुरुषस्य श्रेष्ठं, धर्मः सुचीर्णः सुखमावहति।
सत्यं ह वै स्वादुतमं रसानां, प्रज्ञाजीविनं जीवितमाहुः श्रेष्ठम्॥” इति।
“śraddheha vittaṃ puruṣasya śreṣṭhaṃ, dharmaḥ sucīrṇaḥ sukham āvahati.
satyaṃ ha vai svādutamaṃ rasānāṃ, prajñājīvinaṃ jīvitam āhuḥ śreṣṭham.” iti.
“Faith here is the best wealth for a person; the Dharma, well-practiced, brings happiness.
Truth indeed is the sweetest of tastes; the life of one living by wisdom, they say, is the best.”
